Poshan Pakhwada to be observed from March 8 in Dibrugarh

Dibrugarh: Along with the rest of the country, Poshan Pakhwada will be observed in Dibrugarh district under POSHAN Abhiyaan from March 8 to March 22. In this connection, a meeting to discuss the celebration of the event on a convergence mode with active participation by various government departments was held at the conference hall of the office of the Deputy Commissioner, Dibrugarh under the chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner, Pallav Gopal Jha on Thursday. Officials from Social Welfare, Health, Education, PHE, Sports, Zilla Parishad, Dibrugarh Municipal Board and other departments took part in the meeting. Addressing the officials, DC Jha stressed the need to create awareness about proper nutrition for newborns and pregnant women for a better society and appealed to all government departments to include a Poshan component in each of their government programmes so that maximum awareness on nutrition could be created among the people.

Speaking in the meeting, Additional Deputy Commissioner Nandita Baruah (Social Welfare) said the Poshan Pakhwada would be launched on the occasion of International Women’s Day on March 8. She informed that the Social Welfare Department would be the nodal department for coordinating activities during the period and the event would be celebrated in a convergence mode.

She further informed that the key activities during this programme would include the district-level launch of Poshan Pakhwada, rally and awareness meetings on nutrition at the district, block and community level, Prabhat Feri, session on nutrition, self-help group meetings, anaemia screening camps, special gaon sabha on Poshan, growth monitoring of children, home visits of newborn babies by ASHA/AWWs, observance of Village Health, Sanitation and Nutrition Day, among others.
