TEZPUR: A post harvest demonstration programme of maize value chain machinery in Borsola in Sonitpur district was inaugurated by Prakash Chandra Bora, District Agriculture officer, Sonitpur. Farmer leader Bharat Subedi welcomed all the Agriculture department officials and farmers & Saurabh Srivastava, District Agriculture Marketing Coordinator, APART briefed about the benefits and future course of the programme.

Prakash Chandra Bora said, Borsola is very much potential for maize cultivation although farmers were having lot of issues related to post harvest of the crop. In this regard a primary meeting with key farmers was conducted to analyse the gap of supply chain and a detail project report was prepared under the project APART which emphasized on seed to market linkage. Initially, it was a plan to cover 1000 bighas, but with support of farmers it had increased upto 5000 bighas. APART project has given the importance to support at group level purchase of key agriculture inputs like seed, fertilizer and pesticides which will help them to get at lesser price than the market rate. Technical support was given to them time to time by the agriculture officials during crop season. APART project has provided Maize dehusker cum sheller, weighing scale and Grain dryer to overcome the supply chain issues. By getting an encouragement due to successful completion of project, farmer groups have been planning to register the farmer producer's company within 20 days.
