Tezpur: Acclaimed Assamese actor Arun Nath, known for his unforgettable performances in over fifty films including “Duronir Rong”, “Bohagor Duporiya”, “Agnisnan”, “Pratidhan”, “Kolahal”, “Sarathi”, “Sagaraloi Bohu Dour”, “Dinbandhu”, “Antarin”, and “Sri Raghupati”, is set to surprise audiences in his latest venture, “Tarikh”. In a bold departure from his previous roles, Nath plays the lead character without uttering a single word—a completely silent performance.
Directed by Himjyoti Talukdar, the promising filmmaker who earned widespread praise for “Calendar (2018)”, “Tarikh” returns to the big screen after eight years with a concept inspired by the theme of “Tarikh.” The narrative is rooted in the tragic aftermath of the October 30, 2008 serial bomb blasts in Guwahati, exploring the life of a man deeply affected by the incident.
The film’s official poster was unveiled on Friday at Bijoychandra Bhagawati Bhawan, Tezpur, in the presence of the producer, director, music director and celebrated singer Tarali Sharma, popular playback singer Rupam Bhuyan (who also lent his voice to one of the songs), actor Mintu Baruah, and other members of the cast and crew. The event drew an audience that included several eminent personalities from Tezpur.
Produced by Arundhati Sarma Baruah and Dr. Muktishman Hazarika under the Enajori Talkies banner, the film features a talented ensemble cast including Bollywood actor Balaram Das, Swagata Bharali, Kul-Kuldip, Sanjeev Sarma, Dr. Jayanta Das, and Shubranil Bora. The music, composed by Tarali Sarma, plays a crucial role in conveying emotions for a protagonist who never speaks. “Silence itself can be music,” Sarma remarked, noting the challenge and creative satisfaction of crafting such a score.
The technical team boasts Aniruddha Baruah (cinematography), Debojit Gayan (sound design and mixing), Uddipta Kumar Bhattacharya (editing), Rani Dutta Baruah (costume design), Chandan Deka (art direction), and Akash Gogoi (makeup). The screenplay is penned by Himjyoti Talukdar, Ankur Deka, and Adhiraj Kashyap, while co-producers include Jyotirmoi Shri, Trinayan Bora, and Angshuman Saikia. The film has already earned selections at multiple international film festivals.
During the event, Rupam Bhuyan enthralled the audience with a live rendition of “Uxhaah”, a soulful track from the movie.
The unveiling ceremony also saw the presence of noted playwright-director Aishwarya Kakoti, veteran physician Dr. Pradip Baruah, Inspector General of Police Prashanta Changmai, and respected social workers Anjali Kalita and Swapna Baniya. “Tarikh” will hit theatres on August 22, following the recent release of its much-anticipated trailer.
