Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Package (PMGKP): A boon for beneficiaries in Assam

Guwahati: To protect poor people of the country from the impact of the lockdown due to COVID 19, Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on March 26 announced the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Package (PMGKP). As part of the PMGKP, the government announced free food grains and cash payment to women and poor senior citizens and farmers.

In the State, the Central and State governments are ensuring smooth implementation of the package. Beneficiaries from different districts of the State are happy to share their stories and experiences. Madhab Kalita and Pranab Bezbaruah from Kariya village of Nalbari district shared that they got Rs 2,000 under the Kishan Vikash Scheme. They expressed their gratitude and happiness to the government for this help.

The government is also providing free foodgrains to the beneficiaries which is also is helping the poor to cope up with the present lockdown situation. So far 40.03 lakh MT of food grains have been lifted by 36 States/UTs out of 40 lakh MT for April.

Deepak Kumar Das, Bhanu Nath, Pulen Patowary and Dipannita Das from Rangia, Subrata Barman and Ganga Owari from Kokrajhar thanked the government for providing free ration to them under the PMGKP.

The swift implementation of the package is being continuously monitored by central and State governments. (PIB)
