TINSUKIA: The Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojona (PMUY) scheme which was aimed to safeguard health of women by providing LPG connections to seven categories of women households and launched in 2016 has successfully fulfilled the target in Tinsukia district recording 16.64 percent increase till December 31, 2018.
Disclosing the achievement in a press meet at Tinsukia Press Club on Friday, Anwesha Saikia, the Tinsukia district nodal officer (DNO) of PMUY said though the Tinsukia district had a target of 63790 connections it fulfilled the target 8 months ahead and further extended the LPG connection to additional 16,500 households till December 2018. The Tinsukia office also held 128 LPG Panchayat through LPG Safety Clinic across the district to create awareness on the safety of LPG connections. Addressing the press meet, Khogen Changmai, the Tinsukia Area Manager of LPG division said during 2nd phase of implementation, any poor person holding National Food Security card would be brought within the ambit of the scheme.
With only 30 percent beneficiaries reported for refilling, Changmai informed that as a supportive step, a 5kg cylinder will be provided to consumers through 21 LPG distributors across the district soon to discourage beneficiaries reverting back to the primary source of cooking using firewood, coal etc. besides other concessions.
