Preparation to Celebrate Srimanta Sankardeva’s 571st Birth Anniversary

LAKHIMPUR: Elaborate and brisk preparation is underway to celebrate the 571st birth anniversary of a luminous spiritual icon and reformer Srimanta Sankardeva across Lakhimpur district. All the namghars and various celebration committees of the district have taken up their agendas to celebrate the event with pious festivities.

The Madhavjyoti Regional Branch of Srimanta Sankardeva Sangha under Lakhimpur district unit will celebrate the event from October 8 to October 10 covering the greater southern part of the district. The organization will celebrate the event under the management of the Amtola-Bishnupur Prathamik Sakha at the namghar concerned. The programme will start on the first day with Pratah Prasanga which will be followed by the birth anniversary celebration of the Vaisnavite saint. Several cultural and literary competitions on the creation of Sankardeva will be held on the second day. On the third day, the Bhagawat Bhraman and cultural procession will be followed by the open session wherein Srimanta Sankardeva Sangha Prachar Sadasya Prasanna Badan Borah will attend as chief speaker while journalist Ranjit Kakati will be present as youth speaker. Former president of the Aai-Matri Aru Sishu Kalyan Samiti, Makan Nath will grace the occasion as guest of honour.

Srimanta Sankardeva Bornamghar, Bahpati of the district will celebrate the event, along with the annual session of its executive body, from Oct 6 to Oct 9 in a befitting manner. The celebration committee will hold various cultural and literary programmes, in addition to staging bhaona as a part of their agenda to commemorate Srimanta Sankardeva. Journalist Nitumoni Saika will attend the open session to be held on Oct 8 as appointed speaker. MP Pradan Baruah will be present as guest of honour while Lakhimpur PGT College Principal Rukma Gohain Baruah will release the annual publication.
