Preparatory Meeting held ahead of Dwijing Festival at Rowmari, Kokrajhar

Kokrajhar: The Organizing Committee for Dwijing Festival, which is scheduled to be held for twelve days from December 27, 2019, to January 7, 2020, has begun its preparations. In this regard, a high-level meeting was held under the chairmanship of Gautam Talukdar, Deputy Commissioner and Chairman, Dwijing Festival on Thursday at Dwijing Festival site near Hagrama bridge at Rowmari wherein Assam Minister for Tourism and Welfare of Plain Tribes and Backward Classes (WPT and BC) Chandan Brahma outlined the issues for discussion.

It may be mentioned here that a core committee with DC Chirang Gautam Talukdar as Chairman and Ashok Kr. Brahma as Convenor along with twenty-two other sub-committees comprising senior officials and social workers have already been constituted recently to ensure the smooth conduct of the festival. In his address in the meeting, Minister Chandan Brahma shared the past experiences of Dwijing Festival with various stakeholders like event managers, tour operators, bloggers, and other dignitaries and highlighted the probable programmes of the forthcoming Dwijing festival. He called upon every stakeholder to make the forthcoming Dwijing Festival a more attractive and gorgeous one in every aspect for tourists and visitors in comparison to previous years. He directed to the officials of the departments concerned to get involved in the festival fully with their hundred per cent participation to make the programme a grand success. He also instructed the officials and sub-committees to complete the preparations of the festival by November.

The Chairman, Dwijing Festival Gautam Talukdar also asked the committee members to lay focus on the quality of the programmes and participating troops for escalating the festival to the world-class tourism and cultural show. The meeting also discussed the matters relating to the sequence of the programmes, selection of items, traffic problems, mobile network connectivity, security arrangements and resolved to arrange separate routes for entry and exit of vehicles around the festival site and to put barricades to handle the movement of public coming for the festival.

This year, the committee has decided to introduce various attractive events like cultural showcasing of various ethnic groups, troops having national and international reckoning from different parts of the world, programmes of famous regional as well as Bollywood and Hollywood artists, helicopter ride, elephant ride, boat ride, adventurous sports, traditional games, boxing, archery, cycling including ethnic food festival etc. The meeting was also attended by Superintendent of Police Sudhakar Singh and Addl. Deputy Commissioner Karmadev Brahma.
