President Droupadi Murmu Greets Citizens on Lohri, Makar Sankranti, Pongal, and Magh Bihu

NEW DELHI: The President of India, Droupadi Murmu has greeted her fellow citizens on the eve of Lohri, Makar Sankranti, Pongal and Magh Bihu, which will be celebrated on January 13 and 14 respectively.

In her message, the President has said, “On the auspicious occasion of Lohri, Makar Sankranti, Pongal and Magh Bihu festivals, I extend heartfelt greetings to all Indians living in the country and abroad.

She emphasized the importance of these festivals, noting, “These festivals are symbols of our rich cultural heritage and bring with them enthusiasm and joy. Celebrated in diverse forms across the various regions of India, these festivals showcase our harmonious relationship with nature. People also take a holy dip in sacred rivers and perform acts of charity on these occasions.”

Acknowledging the contributions of farmers, the President said, “Through these festivals which are also associated with crops, we express our gratitude to hard working farmers, who work tirelessly to feed the nation.”

In conclusion, she wished for prosperity and progress, stating, “May these festivals bring happiness and prosperity in everyone’s life and we work together with greater vigour to make India a developed country.”

Meanwhile, Uruka and Magh Bihu spirits have beaten the winter chill in Assam with markets and fields agog with activities—marketing and making mejis and bhela ghars, respectively.

This Bihu, being a post-harvest festival, is basically associated with traditional and ethnic food items in the state. The delicacies include pithas of diverse recipes like til pitha, ghila pitha, varieties of ladoos, chunga pithas, curds, beaten rice, milk, jaggery, etc.
