President of Demow Press Club Anil Kumar Dey passes away

DEMOW: Anil Kumar Dey (84), son of Jiten Dey and Sushma Dey, an educationist,social worker, retired Principal of Demow Higher Secondary School and president of Demow Press Club, passed away on Sunday night. He was suffering from old-age ailments and on Friday he was admitted in a private hospital in Sivasagar.

After his condition became critical, he was admitted in a private hospital in Dibrugarh on Sunday and on Sunday night he passed away. Anil Kumar Dey was born in the year 1936 in and was the eldest of Jiten Dey and Sushma Dey. He did his primary education in Nitaipukhuri High School and when he was in Class X he went to Khowang High School. He was a meritorious student and he did his IA and BA at that time in Shillong's St Anthony's College. He did his BA BT from Jorhat.

Anil Kumar Dey joined Demow Higher Secondary School as teacher in the year 1961 and retired as Principal from Demow Higher Secondary School on December 31, 1997. During the 1970s, he had a popular press named Manjura Press in Demow area. He also started the Brahmaputra Valley Academy in the year 1999. After his body was brought to his residence in Demow Dehajan, people gathered in large numbers to pay their tribute.

The members of Demow Press Club and well-wishers of Anil Kumar Dey took out a procession from Demow Dehajan with his body. His body was then taken to the Demow Press Club premises where the members of Demow Press Club, different organizations of Demow and well-wishers paid their last respect to Anil Kumar Dey. A one-minute silence was observed in Demow Press Club premises on Monday.

Kushal Dowari, MLA of Thowra constituency, and Sushanta Borgohain, former MLA of Thowra constituency, also paid tribute and condoled Dey's demise. Business establishments in Demow area were closed as a mark of respect. Dey leaves behind his wife, two sons, a daughter and a host of relatives.
