President on NE visit: Dhubri Medical College to Open on October 12

GUWAHATI: Yet another medical college is waiting to be opened. President Droupadi Murmu is scheduled to open the medical college in Dhubri on October 12.

This was what health minister Keshab Mahanta confirmed after he visited the new medical college premises on Wednesday.

The President is scheduled to open the Dhubri Medical College virtually from the city of Guwahati. Preparations are going to hold the inaugural function at the college premises.

The minister reviewed the preparations with all senior officials of the health and family welfare department apart from the officers of the medical education and research department. Rajya Sabha MP Pabitra Margherita and all MLAs of Dhubri district attended the meeting.

According to information, the first academic session would start in November this year with a batch of 100 students.

This would be the ninth medical college in the state. The best government medical colleges in the state are Assam Medical College in Dibrugarh, Gauhati Medical College in the capital city of Guwahati, Silchar Medical College in Silchar, and Jorhat Medical College & Hospital in Jorhat city.

The president is also scheduled to visit Tripura on October 14 where she would lay the foundation stone of a digital museum at the 105-year-old historic Pushpabanta Palace in Agartala.

The tourism ministry accepted the proposal for turning the century-old palace into a digital museum and sanctioned Rs 40 crore.

According to state tourism minister Pranajit Sinha Roy, the BJP government has been working for the development of the tourism industry in the state since its first day in office.

He said that all the historical and natural tourist spots have been renovated with modern facilities.
