Press Club of Assam Demands Investigation Into Mysterious Death of Journalist in Boko

GUWAHATI: The Press Club of Assam (PCA) has raised serious concerns over the disturbing death of Abdur Rauf Alamgir, a young journalist associated with the news portal TNL, in the Boko area of Kamrup district. The PCA has demanded a thorough investigation into the incident to uncover the truth behind his disappearance and subsequent demise. The body of Alamgir, who had been missing since Saturday, was discovered floating in the Kulsi River at Jambari on Monday morning, prompting the local police to intervene and secure all crime-related evidence.

PCA President Kailash Sarma, along with working President Nava Thakuria and General Secretary Hiren Kalita, demanded a thorough investigation to identify the perpetrators and bring them to justice under the law. It remains unclear whether Alamgir was targeted due to his professional activities or any personal enmity. As a recently married individual, he also ran a service center for a nationalized bank in Goroimari Hatipara, adding to the mystery surrounding his death.

On June 26, the community received distressing confirmation of the discovery of Alamgir's body, affirming that he had been abducted by unidentified miscreants on June 24 from Jambari in Boko, Kamrup (Rural) district, Assam. Despite concerted efforts to locate him, his body eventually surfaced in the Kulsi River near Jambari. Prompt action by local residents ensured the retrieval of the body, and the Boko Police were immediately informed.

The motive behind this incident remains obscure, leaving both the authorities and the local community perplexed. It is yet to be determined whether Alamgir was targeted due to his professional activities as a journalist or if personal enmity played a role. Adding to the complexity of the case, Alamgir had recently entered into wedlock and was engaged in managing a service center for a nationalized bank in Goroimari Hatipara.

The locals of the region have expressed their belief that this was a premeditated murder. Some individuals have raised questions regarding the identity of the deceased and called for verification to establish if the body indeed belongs to Abdur Rauf Alamgir. However, a section of the locals has positively identified the body as that of the journalist. Those who knew him remember him as a model citizen, well-read, educated, and actively involved in initiatives aimed at improving society.

The news of Abdur Rauf Alamgir's abduction and subsequent death has left many people seeking answers regarding the circumstances leading to this tragic event. Speculations abound as to whether his work as a journalist played a role in his demise, further intensifying the need for a comprehensive investigation to uncover the truth behind his disappearance and subsequent demise.
