GUWAHATI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has confirmed his visit to Assam on September 8, where he will inaugurate and lay the foundation stones for several important projects. This announcement follows a meeting with Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma in New Delhi earlier today.
During the meeting, Chief Minister Sarma issued a formal invite to Modi, inviting him to be the chief guest at the year-long celebration marking the 100th birth anniversary of Dr. Bhupen Hazarika, a great musician and cultural icon. The event will garner significant national interest, paying tribute to Hazarika's long-lasting legacy.
Besides the cultural celebrations, the Prime Minister will also inaugurate the Assam Bio-Ethanol Plant that uses 300 KTPA of bamboo as feedstock to produce 49 KTPA of ethanol. This is a major step forward in the pursuit of sustainable energy by Assam and is expected to boost rural economic development.
Furthermore, Modi will be laying the foundation stones of two major infrastructure projects: the ₹5,700 crore Guwahati Ring Road and the Darrang Medical College and Hospital. Both of these projects are expected to improve connectivity and healthcare services in the region.
After the meeting, Chief Minister Sarma posted his gratitude for the Prime Minister's acceptance of the invitation on X, underlining the importance of the impending visit.
