GUWAHATI: The PM WANI (Prime Minister Wireless Access Network Interface) scheme is now available in Assam. Assam has approximately 1.7 crore data users. PM WANI will further enhance availability of high-speed internet, both in rural and urban areas, to access host of services

The PM WANI (Prime Minister Wireless Access Network Interface) scheme has been launched by the Department of Telecom, Government of India, in order to provide low-cost, high-speed internet, especially in rural areas and also in urban areas. This is mainly promoting entrepreneurs like grocery shops, pan shops, other shops, CSCs and individuals with additional business opportunities. The service provider, that is the PDO (Public Data Office) of PM-WANI scheme, works on the same lines of PCO (Public Call Office) and to become a PDO is hassle free, easy and does not require any license, registration or fees.

Customers have to download any PMWANI app from the app store, register themselves and select the data plan and make the payment and start using high speed internet through PM WANI access point, if available in nearby area.

With 6 lakh gram panchayats across India to be connected by optical fibre in the next 1,000 days, the fibre connectivity to the Gram Panchayats will give a boost, especially in Assam to access internet on Wi-Fi available through the PDO. PMWANI intends to enhance the employment of people by providing opportunities to small entrepreneurs. The PDOs will be supported technically by the ecosystem of the PDOA and App provider.

With this, Work from Anywhere (WFA) will get further boost, especially for BPOs/Software professionals who can make their employees work from anywhere, including semi urban and rural areas.

The office of Senior DDG, Assam Licensed Service Area, Department of Telecommunications, Government of India, has urged all to take benefit of this new PMWANI Scheme. More details can be obtained from the websitehttps://dot.gov.in/pm-wani.
