Problems discussed plaguing ward-14 of Lakhimpur town

A CORRESPONDENT

LAKHIMPUR: The people of ward no. 14 under North Lakhimpur Municipal Board have been severely affected by multi-faceted problems for years. The people of the ward have been badly affected by the existing municipal board dumping ground, dilapidated road conditions and poor drainage system.

Regarding these issues, a public meeting was organized in the Pub Chandmari Jame Masjid campus with social activist Dimbeswar Hazarika in the chair. One of the conveners of the meeting, Tazuddin Ahmed Laskar explained the objectives of the programme wherein literary figure Mukut Gogoi and others highlighted the manifold problems that the people of the ward were facing. All of them expressed vehement resentment against the district administration and the North Lakhimpur Municipal Board (NLMB) for their alleged lackadaisical attitude with regard to implementing developmental activities in the ward. The meeting unanimously demanded the district administration and NLMB remove the dumping ground in the area.

Attending the meeting, Swachh Bharat Mission (NAMASTE States) Brand Ambassador Ranjit Kakati spoke about different aspects with regard to maintaining comprehensive cleanliness and hygiene across the ward. He further informed that he had extended written suggestions to the district administration in December last year to shift the dumping ground to an isolated place of the district. He added that the district administration had been considering the issue to find out a permanent solution or to manage the waste matters scientifically. Further, he appealed to the ward people to constitute voluntary cleaning units to ensure cleanliness in the area all the time.

After the discussion, Pub Chandmari Development Committee was constituted in the same meeting with Nurul Haque as president, Tazuddin Ahmed Laskar as a working president and Dilwar Hussain as secretary. The 29-member committee will work for the development of the ward concerned. The first meet of the body will be held on November 29 at Pub Chandmari Minority Boys’ Hostel campus.
