SILCHAR: A massive fire broke out in the South Salmara of Assam. The fire gutted several houses leading to the damage of property worth lakhs of rupees.

According to reports, a total of eight houses were entirely gutted by the fire. The damages to the property are said to be worth about Rs 30 lakhs. The incident took place in the Satdubi Kolabagan locality of the South Salmara Constituency of Assam.

The fire is said to have originated at the residence of Bakkar Ali. It then spread to the residences of Abul Hussain, Amjat Ali and Sajed Ali and gutted the materials inside the houses. A leakage from a cooking gas cylinder has been named as the source of the leakage. The fire was doused by the local people which prevented it from spreading further.

In a previous incident of fire that took place on Monday night, a large fire started in one of the Central Clinical Laboratory's rooms at the Guwahati Medical College and Hospital, according to officials. Dr Abhijit Sharma, Superintendent of Guwahati Medical College, informed that "the fire broke out in a room of the Central Clinical Laboratory on the first floor of the old building of the government-run hospital. We evacuated all of our patients, therefore nobody was hurt.”

Four fire tenders were called in to put out the blaze after the GMCH administration quickly notified the fire department about the occurrence. Later, the firefighters managed to stabilise the situation. According to Sharma, the cause of the fire has not yet been determined, but an investigation will be carried out to discover it.
