A CORRESPONDENT

LAKHIMPUR: The common people of Dhakuakhana have become aggrieved against the Dhakuakhana Subdivisional Electricity Office due to the ‘irresponsible’ attitude of the employees in performing official works. Expressing vehement resentment against the office, the people of Kardaiguri under Pub Dhakuakhana area staged strong protest by burning effigy.

They aggrieved people alleged that the office concerned had despatched electricity bills amounting from Rs. 500 to Rs. 1000 to several families of Kardaiguri village, from whose houses electricity connection had been disconnected. “Moreover, such bills amounting from Rs. 200 to Rs. 1000 have been sent in the name of the husband and wife, both of the same family, against one meter box. The office has sent electricity bills to several families living at Dakhin Chapori and Kardaiguri villages without installing meter boxes at their houses,” they added.

They further alleged that the electricity bills in Pub Dhakuakhana, where electrification was done around two years ago, were despatched to the consumers without reading the meter box. As a result of it, the BPL families who used only one bulb in their houses have to pay bills amounting from Rs 500 to Rs 1,000.

The protesters also added that the bulbs supplied to the beneficiaries by the office concerned under CM’s Akash Deep Yojana were not useful. Pub Dhakuakhana Mising Mimag Kebang (MMK) president Amrit Doley, secretary Pabitra Mili and TMPK executive member Jyotish Pegu took part in the protest programme wherein various slogans against the Electricity Department and office concerned were raised.
