LAKHIMPUR: Protest to Support Journalists: The Officer in-charge (OC) of Narayanpur Police Station allegedly misbehaved with two local journalists of Narayanpur under Lakhimpur district on Tuesday while they had gone out on a bike in order to collect news around 12:00 pm. It is alleged that the OC attempted to charge fine from the two journalists for riding bike during the covid curfew. But the two journalists could not pay the fine due to which the OC kept them detained for an hour.

Having received the information about the incident, some local journalists arrived at the place and wanted to know about their crime from the OC. But the OC allegedly went away from the place along with other police personnel without uttering a single word.

Later, the journalists blocked the NH-15 at Narayanpur town in order to protest against the misbehaviour of the OC. Initiating the protest programme, the journalist fraternity demanded punishment for the OC. Later, the Circle Officer (CO) of Narayanpur Revenue Circle arrived at the protest venue and requested the journalists to withdraw the protest. Responding to the request of the CO, the protesters withdrew their protest. They alleged that the OC concerned took that step against the Narayanpur journalists in order to take out his grudge as they were vocal against his alleged corruption. They declared that they would initiate more protest programmes unless any punitive step was taken against the OC within one day.
