NEW DELHI: Union Minister of State for External Affairs and Textiles Pabitra Margherita made a very dynamic appearance at Bharat Tex 2025, the major textile exhibition held from 14-17 February at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi. The aim of the exhibition was to promote sustainability and honor India's rich textile heritage.

Margherita walked down the ramp wrapped in a customary Eri silk waistcoat and shawl, walking the fashion segment named 'Earthloom – Threads of Heritage.' The segment was designed by popular Shillong designer Daniel Syiem. The minister spoke of his pride in having used Eri silk, a fabric that holds much cultural significance in India. He posted about his experience on social media, saying, "It was truly a proud moment to wear our identity, the Eri silk, at the show and present it to a diverse audience," with a clip of his runway walk.

Reflecting on the event, Margherita, who has a background in textiles, noted that the experience evoked memories of his youth. “Strutting down the runway reminded me of my younger days, only this time, the spotlight was on our weavers and designers and their timeless creations,” he commented.

Bharat Tex 2025 brought together global industry leaders, policymakers, and buyers, facilitating discussions on sustainability, circularity, and digitization in the textile sector. Organized by the Aalekh Foundation and the Confederation of Indian Textile Industry, the event featured fabric testing zones, product demonstrations, and masterclasses, reinforcing India’s leadership in sustainable textile manufacturing on the global stage.
