Public Hearing on APL’s Proposed Formaldehyde Plant Held at JNM Girls’ High School

Namrup: A public hearing on Assam Petro-Chemicals Limited’s proposed 200 TPD Formaldehyde Plant was conducted by Pollution Control Board, Assam at JNM Girls’ High School, Boitamari in Bongaigaon district on Sunday.

The hearing was presided over by Anupam Deka, Additional Deputy Commissioner, Bongaigaon district. The hearing witnessed a lucid and informative presentation by APL officials on the subject pertaining to project and location details, brief production scheme, Environmental Impact Assessment, Environmental Management and Monitoring plan, disaster management plan and project benefits on the proposed Formaldehyde plant. After the session, a long and informative interactive session was held where the local people and representatives from various organizations put their queries and suggestions on the ecological and environmental impact of the plant, employment opportunities, safety measures to be maintained, infrastructural development of the area and creation of green belt.

In reply to their queries, APL officials pleasantly administered the question-answer session and assured to maintain a proper environmental, health and safety management system in the plant and nearby areas along with socio-economic uplift of the locality.

After the question and answer session, it was agreed by overall consent to adjourn the public hearing with the decision that there was no critical issue with the establishment of the APL’s proposed 200 TPD Formaldehyde plant at Boitamari. Hence, the public hearing was declared successful.
