MARIANI: The public of the Katnibari Tea Garden located in Mariani of Assam protested against the accused siphoning of rice from the fair price shop located in the locality. The fair price shop in question was temporarily closed in the presence of the sub-divisional officer and the rice was confiscated.

The local people accused the owner of the fair price shop, Deben Karmakar was engaged in the siphoning of the government-supplied rice that was sent for the people of the locality. They also accused Deben Karmakar did not provide the rice that came for the specially-abled people of the locality and verbally as well as threatened about physically abusing the people who went enquiring about the same.

Acquisitions were made by the workers of line number 9 of the tea garden that Deben Karmakar used to sell the rice that came from the poor labours of the tea garden illegally to other people. The civil supplies inspector of the Titabor subdivision also came to the spot and ordered the closure of the fair price shop for the time being. He also confiscated the rice in question and mentioned that proper action will be initiated against the accused as per the law.

As part of the 'Azadi ka Amrit Mahotshav', Deputy Commissioner of Darrang Pranab Kumar Sarma has inspected a number of fair price shops in and around Mangaldai town, Chapai and Janaramchowka Gaon Panchayat area and closely interacted with the FP dealers on Tuesday and Wednesday. He also gave a patient hearing their grievances in extending their service to the consumers. The Deputy Commissioner while interacting with the FP shop dealers, suggested they make better improvements while serving their consumers.

Newly-joined Assistant Commissioners Akangshi Bhattacharjee and Ihshanul Hussain, Deputy Director of Food and Civil Supplies Tapan Kumar Dutta, Area Officers Taranath Sarma, Iswar Sarma, Dhruba Jyoti Deka and Technical Support Staff accompanied the Deputy Commissioner during his visit to eight numbers of Fair Price Shop dealers.
