DOOMDOOMA: There has been strong public resentment over non-completion of three of the important government projects sanctioned for Sadiya legislative assembly constituency.

One such important project is construction of a RCC bridge at Kaliapani Bandarkhal on the way to the historic Saikhowa Kesaikhaiti Than. An amount of Rs 3,89, 32,000 was sanctioned for construction of the bridge under the Mahavir Lachit-Chilarai Xetu Nirman Abhiyan way back in 2017-2018, as stated in the brief performance list of MLA Balin Chetia during his five-year tenure. But till date not a single pillar of the bridge has come up there. The Saikhowa Anchalik Chatra Santha, along with other organizations, has demanded an inquiry into it.

On the other hand, an irrigation project was sanctioned at Chengelijan village under Maithong Gaon Panchayat (GP) under Kakapather Block at a cost of Rs 5.42 crore. But after its sluice gate fell off in 2019, the construction of the whole project came to a standstill.

The third such important project is the milk cooling plant at Dhola-Saikhowa Ahom Gaon. It is learnt that the work progressed smoothly till 1992. But since 1993 it has been lying idle although crores of rupees have been spent for its construction. The villagers alleged that in 2014 a building was constructed to house the freshly purchased machineries of the plant. Strangely, even after that the project was a non-starter.

Thus, local people said that there were reasons to believe that a huge amount of public money was siphoned off as these three government projects were not executed on time.
