Punya Makar Maghi Purnima Mahasnanotsav concludes at Laksmi Da Triveni Sangam, Lakhimpur

LAKHIMPUR: The Punya Makar Maghi Purnima Mahasnanotsav, organized at Laksmi Da Triveni Sangam at Joyhing in Lakhimpur district with a two-day long programme, concluded on Sunday.

The programme of the concluding day of the festive event began with Tirtha Pujan from 6.30 am. Then several thousand devotees took holy bath in the confluence of the three rivers - Ranganadi, Joyhingnadi and Dhekianadi. It was followed by a Dharmalosana Sabha which commenced with Lakshmi Da Triveni Sangam Development Committee working president Nripen Phukan in the chair. Taking part in the programme, Bihpuriya Botargoya Xatra Xatradhikar Bishnudev Goswami applauded the initiatives of the committee taken for reawakening the holy place. On the other hand, Binod Khanal, the folk artiste of Biswanath district, urged the State Government to take adequate steps to make the confluence site a major tourist place of the State. He stated that if the State Government took adequate steps for the same, the enhancement of culture of the State and the nation would be possible through the heritage site along with the promotion of tourism industry of the district.

In the programme, Haricharan Maharaj from Haridwar and Lakhimpur Durga Mandir priest Ranganath Chaturbedi highlighted the significance of the tradition of river worship in the light of environment protection movement and the Triveni Sangam. In the concluding event, an artiste group from Odissa performed the folk dances of their State. Similarly, several cultural groups of the native State also showcased the culture of Assam in the concluding day's programme.
