Purvottar Swabhiman Utsav Underway in Guwahati
The two-day event is being organised by the Indian Armed Forces
GUWAHATI: The Eastern Command of the Indian Army is organising the Purvottar Swabhiman Utsav in Guwahati with a two-day event this Sunday and Monday to commemorate the competition of 75 years of India's Independence.
The event is being organised to celebrate the contributions of the Northeastern region towards the development of the country. The first leg of the event was organised on Sunday in the premised of the Administrative Staff College. The Head of the Eastern Command of the Indian Army, Lt Gen Rana Pratap Kalita and Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma attended the opening day of the event along with several other dignitaries.
In his welcome address, Lt Gen Rana Pratap Kalita expressed his confidence that the event will help in recognising the contributions of this region. He also hoped that this event will help in bringing the Northeastern region to a key position in the development of the country.
The keynote was given by Swapan Dasgupta, the former Rajya Sabha Member from West Bengal. He spoke about how the region if developed, can propel the entire country towards progress.
Th Basanta Singh, the Education & Law Minister of Manipur spoke about the contributions of his state in the sports arena. And Harsh Vardhan Shringla, the former foreign secretary of the country talked about the implications of the Act East Policy of the country.
The second leg of the event will be organised in the Indira Gandhi Athletic Stadium on Monday. An arms and weapons display will be done by the armed forces in the first half of the day. The celebrations will also include a drone show as well as a skydiving session by experienced personnel from the forces.
A cultural show will also be organised in the evening to mark the event. Zubeen Garg, Tetseo Sisters and Priyanka Bharali are scheduled to take part in the cultural show in the stadium.
