PWRD Establishes Maximum Speed Limit For Vehicles In Assam, Issues Fresh Notification

Guwahati: In a fresh set of notifications issued in Assam, Public Works Road Department (PWRD) has established the maximum speed limit for all classes of motor vehicles on PWD roads with the exception of National Highways.  

The notification gives an overview of the maximum speed that is allowed on PWD roads other than National Highways as the following:

  • 4-Lane with divided carriageway – 80 km/hr
  • 2-Lane (7.0 m wide carriageway) with paved shoulder in plain areas – 70 km/hr
  • 2-Lane (7.0 m carriageway) without paved shoulder in plain areas – 60 km/hr
  • Intermediate Lane (5.5 wide carriageway) with or without paved shoulder in plain areas – 50 km/hr
  • Single Lane (3.75 m wide carriageway) in plain areas – 40 km/hr
  • Roads within Guwahati Metropolitan area having physical median separating the lanes – 50 km/hr
  • Other roads within Guwahati Metropolitan Area and other Municipal/Urban areas – 40 km/hr
  • Road stretched in and around villages, educational institutions, hospitals, busy market areas, and any other vulnerable area identified by police authorities – 30 km/hr
  • In very congested market areas – 20 km/hr
  • 2-Lane (7.0 m wide carriageway) roads in hilly terrain – 40 km/hr
  • Single Lane (3.75 m wide carriageway) roads in hilly terrain – 30 km/hr
