A quarantine centre in Mazbat of Udalguri district has been in the eye of a storm after its inmates allegedly set ablaze

TANGLA: A quarantine centre in Mazbat of Udalguri district has been in the eye of a storm after its inmates allegedly set ablaze some bed mattress while demanding their discharge after three inmates tested COVID-19 positive.

The videos of the inmates of Mazbat College Quarantine Centre setting ablaze the items went viral on social media, inviting the wrath of netizens.

According to reports, a couple of inmates of the quarantine centre created an unruly situation and set ablaze five bed mattress while demanding their discharge, following which Mazbat Revenue Circle Officer Dhritiman Das, Mazbat Officer-in-charge Raja Irshad along with health and fire and emergency service personnel rushed to take stock of the situation and pacify the unruly inmates.

Meanwhile, four persons of Mazbat tested COVID-19 positive, taking the toll of positive patients in Udalguri to 65. Out of the four, three are from the Mazbat College quarantine centre while the fourth patient is a woman who is seven months pregnant. All of them are currently undergoing treatment in the isolation ward of Udalguri Civil Hospital. Pertinently, the Mazbat College quarantine centre has housed a total of 77 inmates.
