DEMOW: After the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) decided to organize Rongali Bihu this time, popular artiste Manash Robin came to Demow on Saturday to protest against politicalization of Bihu. Manash Robin invited the ire of the local Bharatiya Janata Party Yuba Morcha.

To express resentment against the protest faced by Manash Robin in Demow on Saturday, the Bir Lachit Sena Asom staged protest in Demow on Sunday. A protest rally was taken out in Demow by the Bir Lachit Sena Asom and then a chaotic situation took place in Demow Chariali between the Bir Lachit Sena Asom activists and the activists of the local Bharatiya Janata Party Yuba Morcha. The Bir Lachit Sena Asom activists shouted slogans against the BJP and on the other hand, the local Bharatiya Janata Party Yuba Morcha also shouted slogans against Bir Lachit Sena Asom and a quarrel took place between them.

A leader of the Bir Lachit Asom said, “We protest against the opposition Manash Robin faced but we are not preventing anyone from organizing Bihu programme.” The Demow Police reached the incident spot and took Shringkhal Chaliha, leader of Bir Lachit Sena Asom, and the protesters to Demow Police Station. The protesters sustained injuries during the protest, said sources. When the situation became chaotic, Amitabh Sinha, Sivasagar Superintendent of Police, along with the higher police officials of Sivasagar, reached Demow Police Station and took stock of the situation. The local Bharatiya Janata Party and Bir Lachit Sena Asom have lodged two separate FIRs in Demow Police Station regarding the incident, said sources.
