HOJAI: Rabindranath Tagore University, Hojai, hosted the North East Folk Festival on January 28-29, under the aegis of Viksit Bharat@2047 Cell, celebrating the rich and diverse cultural heritage of the Northeast. The event brought together twelve teams from various northeastern communities, including a special delegation from Rajiv Gandhi University (RGU), Arunachal Pradesh. The festival served as a dynamic platform for showcasing traditional folk music, dance, and art forms, offering audiences a glimpse into the vibrant cultural identities of the region. The participation of RGU, Arunachal Pradesh, further emphasized the collaborative spirit of the festival strengthening cultural ties among the northeastern states.
Addressing the gathering, Prof Manabendra Dutta Choudhury, Vice Chancellor of Rabindranath Tagore University, reaffirmed the commitment of the University to Viksit Bharat@2047 and highlighted the role of cultural integration in fostering unity. He emphasized that such events reinforce the spirit of camaraderie and announced plans to expand the festival to a larger scale in the coming years, inviting participants from across India.
In his speech, Dr Choudhury also appreciated the conveners of the program Dr Utpal Phukan and Dr Jayanta Kr Sarmah, Nodal Officer of the Viksit Bharat Cell, for their contribution in making the event a grand success. The invited guest Gajen Saikia also addressed the gathering on the occasion and expressed his happiness to see such a beautiful initiative taken by the university in fostering cultural integration and promoting the diverse traditions of the region.
The North East Folk Festival 2025 was not just a celebration of tradition but a testament to national integration and cultural harmony, echoing the vision for a progressive and united future as per vision Viksit Bharat@2047, a press release by Rabindranath Tagore University stated.
