LAKHIMPUR: Lakhimpur Police arrested the person behind the infamous 'audio clip' who was allegedly trying to spread rumours and misinformation regarding the ongoing recruitment drive for Sub Inspectors and Constables in Assam Police. The person has been identified as Manoj Tamuli (38), son of Kirti Tamuli, resident of Shantipur of Saboti area under North Lakhimpur Police Station. He was arrested from Rajkhowa Gaon under Panigaon Police Station on Saturday night while was staying at the residence of a person named Akan Saikia living at the village. In the meantime, a case was registered against him at North Lakhimpur PS vide No. 845/20 US 120 (B)/419/420/468/471 IPC.

Notably, infamous Manoj Tamuli allegedly contacted several persons, who were the aspirants of the Assam Police Sub Inspector post. He allegedly demanded them to pay Rs 4 lakh to have them recruited in the posts concerned. In the meantime, an audio clip regarding the illegal deal he made in this connection became viral on social media which created sensation in the police department.

On Sunday, Lakhimpur police interrogated the person in North Lakhimpur PS and obtained various information about the racket being active centering round the issue. On the basis of his confession, Lakhimpur Police arrested one of his companions named Jibi Saikia (34), daughter of Akan Saikia of Rajkhowa Gaon, on Sunday. Manoj drew the whole blueprint of the cheat staying at Jibis' house. On the other hand, Tezpur Police also arrested two persons named Amrit Sarmah and Aswini Sarmah who were also allegedly involved in the racket. At present, they have been shifted to Lakhimpur from Tezpur.

Lakhimpur Police denied Manoj's relationship with the Police Department as the arrested fraud claimed while he made the illegal deal with candidates of Sub Inspector in order to demand the cash to confirm their recruitment. On the other hand, one Tusar Pratim Gogoi also filed a case against him at Tinsukia Police Station on Sunday. Gogoi complained that Manoj Tamuli got took Rs 40,000 from him in 2017 along with his testimonials for his recruitment to the army.

Notably, Director General of Police (DGP), Assam, Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta took to Twitter on Saturday night to announce arrest of the culprit. Earlier, through a series of tweets, DGP Mahanta clarified that the recruitment is done by Assam State Level Police Recruitment Board under the Government of Assam with transparency.

"These recruitment drives are conducted by Assam State Level Police Recruitment Board under Governement of Assam. These recruitment drives are held under strict and transparent policies, and open for scrutiny by all candidates," tweeted Mahanta. He also tweeted that the Assam Police Department was committed to have a recruitment drive for Sub Inspector and constables clean, transparent and fair for all. He expressed kudos to Lakhimpur Police for arresting the person initiating immediate action.
