Raids on illegal liquor dens launched in Golaghat

Golaghat, July 1: As the new amendment of the Excise Act, 2018 came into effect, the district administration of Golaghat along with Excise department has conducted a series of raids and has taken stringent measures to plug loopholes to prevent leakage of excise revenue. Since April 2018, a total of 48 cases have been detected and 34 people have been sent to judicial custody for violating provisions of the Act. The number of cases detected between January 2018 and May 2018 is 565. Total revenue collected in the months of April and May, 2018 is Rs 2,88,92,852 which is an increase of over Rs.42.63 lakh of the amount collected during the same period in April-May 2017. The total collection in the year 2017-18 was Rs. 16,37,71,628.

During the raids, 260 litres of illegal distillation liquor, 130 litres of fermented wash, four distilling apparatus sets, 191.800 litres of pachuwai, 1.800 litres of new country spirit liquor, 18.900 litres of IMFL and 1.950 litres of beer were seized by the department.

The Excise department has conducted raids at Halmira, Selengi, Abhayapuria, Kathkotia, Golaghat Town Hindi School Road, Borting, Naohalia, Sensuwa, Chankala, Chandmari, Bogorijeng, Bamungaon, Charipuria, Jamuguri, Kacharichuk, Gorbosti, Negheriting, Kumargaon, Borkathoni, Rongamati, Missamora in Golaghat subdivision; at Anandapur TE, Goriya-Barpathar, Kamargaon, No-5 Dagaon under Bokakhat subdivision and at Madhabpur, Gandhakoroi, Khanikar gaon, Kordoiguri, Borpathar Town Ward No-4, Herheri Mising Gaon,Gorhgaon, Borpathar Gizing, No-1 Padumoni under Dhansiri subdivision.
