Rainshelter technology for tomato crops demonstrated in Golaghat

GOLAGHAT: The 'Rainshelter Technology' for the tomato crops was demonstrated for the first time in the fields of Dibyajyoti Gogoi in the Morongi ADO Circle by District Agriculture Office of Golaghat and CSS- ATMA, Golaghat under the aegis of Assam Agribusiness and Rural Transformation Project (APART) with the technical support of World Vegetable Center (WVC).

The primary objective of the technology is to meet the market demand of the summer tomatoes during the rainy season by implementing Polythene Sheets for the production of the same.

The technology was successfully carried out under the guidance of District Agricultural Officer Ranjit Kr. Sarmah, Assistant Chemist (AGMARK) cum District Nodal Officer APART, Golaghat Ranjan Baruah, Agricultural Development Officer of Morongi ADO Circle Shanghamitra Sarmah.

The farmer procured a total of 16 quintal of tomatoes from a demonstration plot of 100 metre square and selling it at a wholesale rate of Rs. 35/- per Kg. When asked about the rainshelter technology the farmer's response was extremely positive with an eagerness to implement it yet again in the near future, stated a press release.
