Rajdhani Special Train to run between Dibrugarh and New Delhi from October 12

Finally the dream of lakhs of people living in North Assam for availing Rajdhani Express Train service has turned into reality.

LAKHIMPUR: Finally the dream of lakhs of people living in North Assam for availing Rajdhani Express Train service has turned into reality. This dream of the people became a reality with the notification of Rajdhani Special Train which will run between Dibrugarh and New Delhi from October 12.

The office of the General Manager (Operation), Northeast Frontier Railway notified the running of this Rajdhani Special Train between Dibrugarh and New Delhi on October 8 under the reference of Railway Board message issued vide No. 2020/CHG/33/7/PT dated October 7. The train bearing 'No. 02505/02506 DBRG-NDLS-DBRG Rajdhani (Bi-weekly) Special via Bogibeel' will run to New Delhi twice a week on Monday and Friday while it will come back to Dibrugarh from New Delhi on Thursday and Sunday through North Assam's Dhemaji, Lakhimpur, Biswanth, Sonitpur, Darrang and Udalguri districts.

On the two stipulated days, the train will start its journey from Dibrugarh at 10:00 pm and arrive in New Delhi at 1:55 pm after a 38-hour long journey. Similarly, the train will depart from New Delhi at 9:25 am on Thursday and Sunday and arrive in Dibrugarh at 3:00 pm on Saturday and Tuesday respectively. The running of the train from New Delhi to Dibrugarh will start from October 15. During the up and down journey, the train, between Dibrugarh and New Delhi, will halt at other 23 stations, viz North Lakhimpur, Harmuty, Rangapara North, New Misamari, Udalguri, Tangla, Rangia New Bongaigaon, Kokrajhar, New Alipurduwar, New Coochbehar, New Jalpaiguri, Kishanganj, Katihar, Begucharai, Barauni Junction, Hajipur Junction, Chapra, Ballia, Varanasi, Lucknow, Bareilly and Muradabad.

Many organizations of North Assam had consecutively demanded the Union Government and the Railway Ministry to introduce the Rajdhani Express Train covering the larger area of the State in the past years. Regarding the demand, the Lakhimpur district unit of All Assam Students' Union (AASU) submitted its last memorandum to the General Manager of the Northeast Frontier Railway on December 19 last year.
