GOALPARA: A rally demanding gender equality, end of domestic violence and violence against women was taken out on Thursday in Goalpara town. Khanindra Choudhury, Deputy Commissioner of the Goalpara district, flagged off the event which took off from the DC's office and marched through the main streets of the town and ended at Goalpara College.

Addressing the rally, the DC emphasized showing respect to women, especially by the younger generation. "The Indian society has placed women in a very high and respectful position and it is our duty to ward off violence and create a balanced society where both men and women feel secure and enjoy gender equality," said Khanindra Choudhury. Later, an awareness meeting titled 'Xurakkhit Nari Shantir Samaj' was also arranged at Goalpara College where Kalyani Kangkana Das, ADC, Dr Subhash Barman, principal of Goalpara College, Samir Choudhury, district project coordinator of ASRLM, focused on the relevant topic.
