Rangia election district to have 30 all-women polling stations

Rangia: The overall preparation for the forthcoming general election in Rangia Election District under No. 8 Mangaldai Lok-Sabha constituency is going on. A training programme of women Polling and Presiding Officers was held at the conference hall of the Subdivisional Officer (Civil )’s office on Tuesday.

SDO (C) Munindra Bordoloi, who is also the District Election Officer for Rangia Election District under 8 Mangaldai HPC, informed that election to Mangaldai HPC would take place in the second phase on April 18, and there were two legislative assembly segments under Rangia Election District, namely 56 Kamalpur and 57 Rangia. Seeking active cooperation of the participants of the training programme in giving adequate time and effort for the general election, the DEO informed that election would be held in 448 polling stations under Rangia Election District. Out of 448 polling stations, 222 are under Kamalpur LAC and 226 falls under Rangia LAC.

For smooth conduct of the election process, the DEO has opened various cells under the supervision of seniors administrative officials and has engaged adequate staff in each of these cells.

The total number of voters in Rangia election district is 3, 60, 817, out of which 1, 85, 648 are males and 1,75,169 females. Stating that there were another 746 service voters and 1,345 People with Disabilities (PwD) electors, the District Election Officer informed that special provisions were being put in place to ensure that all PwD voters could be taken to the polling stations to exercise their voting rights.

Awareness campaign on EVM / VVPAT along with SVEEP activities is being carried out all over the election district to ensure maximum turnout during the polls. He also informed that there would be 30 all women polling stations in Rangia election district. Moreover, a toll-free voters’ helpline -1950 has been opened for all election-related purpose. He added that flying squad, Static Surveillance teams and monitoring unit had already been pressed into service to check anti-social activities, use of liquor and illegal transactions under the supervision of Kamalpur Revenue Circle Officer and Nodal Officer of Modal Code of conduct cell, Dr. Bedanga Talukdar.
