LAKHIMPUR: The newly-selected vice-chairperson and executive councillors of the Deori Autonomous (Council DAC) took oath on Sunday.

The oath-taking ceremony was organized in the conference hall of the Deputy Commissioner's Office of Lakhimpur district wherein newly-selected vice-chairperson Nandita Deori and seven Executive Councillors took oath. The seven Executive Councillors are Shashanka Bor Deori of Gahpur, Prafulla Deori of Bongalmora, Bijumoni Deori of Kinapothar, Rakesh Bor Deori of Gogamukh, Jatin Chandra Deori of Sadia, Jogen Deori of Margherita and Hiranjit Bireswar Deori of Kotiyori. Deputy Commissioner of Lakhimpur district, Sumit Sattawan administered the oath to all of them.

Minister for Education, Welfare of Plain Tribe & Backward Classes (non-BTC), Dr. Ranoj Pegu attended the oath-taking ceremony as chief guest, while Lakhimpur MP Pradan Baruah was present as guest of honour. In addition, DAC Chairperson Amrit Prabha Deori, Chief Executive Officer Bhairab Deori, Deputy Chief Executive Officer Bhaskar Deori, Principal Secretary Manorama Morang, Lakhimpur District Information & Public Relation Officer Mandira Chayengiya were also present in the event.

While delivering lecture on the occasion, Dr. Ranoj Pegu urged upon the DAC to ensure comprehensive progress of the community people by implementing effective developmental schemes. He also called upon the autonomous council to adopt unique, innovative projects to render academic development, job orientation and economic empowerment of the weaker section of the community.

The newly-elected 22 executive members of the DAC along with Bhairab Deori as Chief Executive Member, Bhaskar Deori as Deputy Chief Executive Member (DCEM) and Amrit Prabha Deori as chairperson of the council took oath on December 27 of the last year in an event organized at the DAC Guest House, located at Narayanpur of the district.
