Guwahati: A rare variety of tea from Assam on Tuesday sold out for a whopping Rs.99,999.00 per kilogram at Guwahati Tea Auction Centre (GTAC).

The tea was bought Saurav Tea Traders with the highest bid of Rs 99,999.00 per kilogram.

With this price, the tea named Manohari Gold has created history again after a gap of one year. Last year, the GTAC sold the tea at a price of Rs 75,000 per kilogram, the highest in the year.

GTAC sold the Manohari Gold Speciality Tea at Rs 75,000 per kg, Guwahati Tea Auction Buyer''s Association (GTABA), secretary, Dinesh Bihani had said.

"This is a great achievement amidst the global pandemic when the entire world is affected. Manohari Tea Estate has made extra effort to produce this specialty tea in the month of September and sent it to GTAC for sale", an ecstatic Bihani had said.

He further claimed that the GTAC has emerged as a hub for showcasing high priced Assam Specialty tea.

An exotic tea is judged by its aroma, taste and colour, Bihani said.
