Re-polling in 29 polling booths of Lakhimpur

LAKHIMPUR: The panchayat poll, 2018 concluded in Lakhimpur on Wednesday with polling continuing until late evening. Wrong printing of ballot papers, anomalies in electoral roll and law-and-order situation affected the polling activities at various polling booths in the district. The polling marked 69.19 turnouts in the district as a whole as 68.24 percent voters exercised their franchise in North Lakhimpur subdivision while 70.15 percent did it in Dhakuakhona.

The district administration, as per discussion with the State Election Commission observers, decided to hold re-poll in 29 polling booths, 27 in North Lakhimpur on December 10 and 2 in Dhakuakhona subdivision of the district on December 7. The polling booths under North Lakhimpur subdivision where re-poll will be done for wrong printing of ballot paper anomalies are- No. 4 Harmoti Bazar LP School(RS), No.4 A Harmoti Bazar LP School (LS), No. 4B Harmoti Bazar LP School(MS), No. 1 Dulung Ukhamati LP School (RS), No. 2 Dulung Ukhamati LP School, No. 3 Ghagarnagar LP School, No. 4 Ananda Chah Bagan Labour Club, No. 5 Ananda Chah Bagan LPS No. 6 Ananda Chah Bagan LP School, No. 7 Borbil ME School, No. 8 Borbil ME School, No. 9 USSA ME School, No. 10 USSA ME School, LS, No. 7A Haripur LP School (Balitika) and No. 10 A Mornai LP School.

Due to electoral roll anomalies, re-poll will be held at No. 3 Alisiga LP School (LS), No. 3 ABowalguri Nalkata LP School(LS), No. 1 Rajbari LP School(RS), No. 1A Rajbari LP School (LS), No. 8 Amtala-Bishnupur LP School (LS), No.3 Ruahi Katari Chapori Jr College, No. 8 Gautam Mili H School. In Dhakuakhona subdivision, re-poll will be done at No. 196 Nemutengani LP School polling booth and No. 153 Sarvodaya High School polling booth at Amlakhi Dangdhora. Around 50 ballot papers were recovered outside the former polling booths while the ballot box was snatched away from the latter. The box was later recovered at a paddy field behind the polling booth and police detained a suspected miscreant regarding the violence.
