Re-SVAYEM scheme launched in Sonitpur district

TEZPUR: Minister for Guwahati Development Department, Law and Justice, Siddhartha Bhattacharya on Thursday ceremonially launched the Redesigned Swami Vivekananda Assam Youth Empowerment (Re-SVAYEM) scheme for Sonitpur district at a function held at the District Library auditorium in Tezpur.

Member of Parliament, Tezpur HPC, Pallab Lochan Das was present as the guest of honour on the occasion while MLA of Tezpur, Brindabon Goswami, MLA of Dhekiajuli, Ashok Singhal, and MLA of Borsola, Ganesh Limboo were present as special guests. Also present were president of Sonitpur Zilla Parishad, Dolly Surin, government representatives of the DLCIC for Re-Svayem, Tulshi Borthakur and Nabajit Sarma, and social worker Rakesh Das.

Deputy Commissioner Manvendra Pratap Singh, while delivering the welcome address, gave a brief overview of the redesigned SVAYEM scheme, explaining its background and objectives. He informed all present that a total of 1,518 applications were received for the scheme and after thorough scrutiny of all applications, a total of 821 Self-Help Groups were selected for receipt of fund under this scheme. Out of these 176 are from Tezpur LAC, 167 from Rangapara LAC, 118 from Sootea LAC, 116 from Borsola LAC and 224 are from Dhekiajuli LAC under Sonitpur district. A total of 6,764 individual members belonging to these 821 SHGs will be benefitted under this scheme.

Speaking on the occasion, minister Siddartha Bhattacharyya appealed to the beneficiaries present to make good use of the money received from the government and use it to grow their businesses through which they would be able to employ more people and thus pave the way for economic progress of the society. He thanked the Assam Government led by Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal for coming up with such far-sighted schemes and expressed hope that it would lead to all-round development of the State.

As part of the programme, five demo cheques were distributed to one SHG from each of the five LACs under Sonitpur district namely – Anand SHG, Laodangi Jana Jagriti SHG, Shyamaprasad Mukherjee SHG, Atal ASG, The Dristi ASG. An amount of Rs 30,000 under this scheme will be deposited directly to the beneficiaries' bank accounts and on completion of the required training in their respective fields, the additional sum of Rs. 20,000 will be deposited into their bank accounts directly.
