Reeling under debt, five of a family commits suicide in Gossaigaon, Assam

Gossaigaon (Kokrajhar): In a shocking incident, five members of a family committed suicide in Kokrajhar's Gossaigaon. The police said that a family consisting of father, mother and their three children were found dead in their house on Monday morning.

The father has been identified as Nirmal Paul, (52). The other family members who were found hanging in their house are Nirmal Paul's wife Mollika Paul (45), and their daughters Puja Paul, Neha Paul, and Sneha Paul. The family were a resident of Tulsibeel in Gossaigaon.

On Monday morning, when the neighbours did not see any of the members of the family, they went to their house and discovered five of them dead by hanging. A team of police officials, including the sub-divisional police officer (SDPO) of Gossaigaon and the officer-in-charge of Gossaigaon police station, reached the spot after they were informed.

Nirmal Paul was a sub-agent of Bharat Gas at Tulsibeel Market. The neighbours claimed that Paul was under debt due to his business, and took this extreme step under extreme mental pressure.

Paul's eldest daughter, Puja was working as a teacher at Tulsibeel Jatiya Vidyalaya. His second and third daughters were studying in class XII and X, respectively.

The police said that they have started their investigation into the incident.
