Haflong: The Dimasa Mothers’ Association (DMA) has expressed alarm over the circulation of obscene photos and video clips of girls and women on social networking sites. The DMA appealed to all the denizens of Dima Hasao to refrain from committing such offence.
In this regard, the association said that there were various legal provisions against obscenity. Clicking obscene photos, videos and publishing or transmitting/circulating those obscene photos and videos amount to voyeurism and attract minimum imprisonment for a term which may extend to three years and with fine up to Rs 5 lakh.
President Agnes Gorlosa said it was a sad reflection of the attitude of indifference towards the society. “We must remember that circulation not only violates the victim’s privacy and personal integrity but inevitably causes a serious psychological problem as well as it harms their dignity, ultimately ruining their healthy family bonding.”
The DMA has urged people that whenever they receive any obscene photos and videos or have knowledge of such acts, they should report it to the police. This will definitely assist the victim from exploitation and to live with human dignity.
