Naharkatia: Former Principal of Naharkatia Higher Secondary School and renowned historian, Dr. Mahendra Borpuzary passed away at 8 pm at his nephew's residence at Tinsukia on Wednesday.

Dr. Borpuzary marked his presence by contributing to many fields of Assamese literature. He was a short story writer of the notable 'Ramdhenu' era of Assamese literature, a renowned historian who unfolded many unknown truths related to Ahom history and a renowned writer of children's literature. He was 78. Dr. Mahendra Borpuzary retired from service in 2001.

Dr Mahendra Borpuzary wrote Bezbaruah, Gohain Baruah Aaru Samakalin Samaj Jiban, Eta Sapunor Kotharey, Pachimor Duwar, Dui Ritu, Ratir Sabda, Kauri Gol Godhuli Hol and Kun Roja Kun Mantri.

On Thursday morning, a brief prayer ceremony was organized at the Jaipur residence of Dr Borpuzary. Naharkatia Sahitya Sabha, Jaipur Sahitya Sabha, advisor of Naharkatia Press Guild, Bulon Kumar Saikia, president Pranjal Bhuyan, Bidyut Mahanta from Naharkatia Sangbadik Mancha, Rituparna Gogoi, president of Naharkatia unit AASU and other dignitaries condoled the demise of Dr Mahendra Borpuzary. All Press Correspondents' Union (APCU) expressed grief over the demise of Dr. Borpuzary. APCU chief advisor Manoj Singh, president Abdul Khalek, working president Mausamjyoti Baishya, among others, condoled the demise of Dr. Borpuzary through a press note. Dr Mahendra Borpuzary was cremated at the Jaipur Public Cremation Ground on Thursday afternoon.
