TEZPUR: With incessant rainfall in Nagaon district in the month of May, the water level crossed the danger mark in Kopili and Kollong Rivers, leading to flood in the area. To mitigate the crisis, SDRF followed by NDRF teams were called in for relief by civil administration. But with the situation worsening due to swelling rivers and more areas getting inundated, assistance of Army was requisitioned.

Rising to the occasion, a Flood Relief Task Force ex 322 Air Defence Regiment along with section strength of 70 Engineer Regiment was tasked to provide aid to civil authorities. Acting with remarkable speed and promptness, the Joint Task force reached the area and rescued marooned civilian populace from submerged villages to safe zones. Essential supplies ration and medicines were given to remote villages that were cut off due to floods. Medical assistance in terms of first aid and treatment of sick was rendered throughout the course of deployment. The flood relief operation was well harmonized with seamless coordination with civil authorities, SDRF & NDRF teams.

The prompt and intensive rescue and relief operation carried out by Indian Army saved precious lives and provided much needed relief to the flood affected local populace. Indian Army in keeping up with its rich ethos and living upto its name once again carried out yeomen service for the local population of Assam.
