Research scholar of Assamese folk culture Phulkumari Kalita passes away

BARPETA: The noted research scholar of Assamese folk culture, retired HOD, Assamese department of B.H. College, Barpeta Phul Kumari Kalita breathed her last at her daughter's house in Digboi. She was 71. She was the wife of Nabin Kalita, former principal of Bhawanipur Anchalik College, Barpeta and the inhabitant of Barpeta Road. She had been suffering from old age ailments. Thus, she was staying at her daughter's house. She wrote many books on folk culture of Barpeta like - Sakhi oi sakhi (1992), Ayatir Uruli, Guwagacha Satrar Chomu Avash (1999), Gaali Sapani (2003), and Aamar Satra Aamar Oitijya (2013). She also wrote various articles in magazines, newspapers and souvenirs on folk culture. She was conferred "Pratima Pandey Baruah Award" from AASU in Barpeta Road. A statue of her was also made to pay respect to her. She will be cremated in Digboi. The people of Barpeta mourn for the sad demise of this scholar.
