DHUBRI: Residents of wards no. 1 and 6 of Dhubri town submitted a memorandum to the Dhubri district president of BJP, Debamoy Sanyal urging him to intervene and stop dumping of garbage in Dhubri Mela Field.

The memorandum expressed serious apprehension and fear of outbreak of epidemic due to foul smell emitted from the garbage dumped. Signed by nearly 150 residents of ward no. 1 and 6, the memorandum further stated that this was the area in the town where Ashokastami fair was held annually along with other social and cultural programmes and garbage dumping therein was a serious health hazard and unhygienic. "In view of growing number of coronavirus positive cases in Dhubri, Dhubri Municipal Board should undertake special drive to make the town clean and free from air pollution, but instead of that garbage is being piled up in the Dhubri Mela Field, which we fear will create a serious health problem in the days to come," a signatory in the memorandum, Umesh Kumar Roy said.

Signatories of the memorandum urged upon the Dhubri district president of BJP, Dr. Debamoy Sanyal to take immediate and appropriate action so that Dhubri Municipal Board stopped dumping of garbage immediately.
