LAKHIMPUR: The All Assam Unemployed Association (AAUA) has demanded the Prime Minister of India to ensure the retention of the jobs of migrated workers working in the other States till the day lockdown was declared. In this regard, the AAUA submitted a memorandum with four more demands to the Prime Minister on Monday.

In the memorandum, AAUA president in-charge Dharmendra Deuri and general secretary Jiban Rajkhowa said, "The unexpected situation caused by the COVID-19 pandemic and the nationwide lockdown subsequently initiated to combat the contagion of the virus which has posed as the tremendous threat to the human civilization at present has affected all sectors of the nation adversely. Especially, the poor migrated workers across the nation have been under massive threat caused by the present situation due to which they have lost their jobs at a time when the burning unemployment problem has affected the national economy like a termite. Most of such workers have to make supreme sacrifices while attempting to go back to their native State being the victim of the unfavourable situation. Under such circumstances, we, on behalf of our organization, would like to lay the following points related to this issue along with two more other issues for your consideration and due execution."

Under such circumstances, the AAUA demanded the Prime Minister to compensate against all the migrated workers who had to make supreme sacrifice losing everything of their life while trying to return to their home. Through the same memorandum the organization further demanded him to stop the open mining of coal at Dehing Patkai Reserve Forest, to roll back the proposal of the amendment of the Labour Laws and to ensure the proper and fair implementation of the recently declared aspiring economic programme, the Atmanirbhar Bharat Abhiyan Stimulus Package amounting to Rs 20-lakh crore, so that the genuine people get the benefits of the programme.
