BOKAKHAT: A grand felicitation ceremony was held on Friday at the Numaligarh Higher Secondary School in honour of the recently retired principal, Mohen Saikia. The event was presided over by Sangeeta Saikia Rabha, the President of the School Management Committee.
Various groups, including the teaching staff, Student Unity Forum, management committee members, and the students of the school, presented tokens of appreciation such as felicitation letters, traditional Assamese items like gamosa, japi, and xorai, among other gifts to Saikia. An artistic portrait of Mohen Saikia, drawn by Nityananda Tati, a student of Class VIII, was also presented to him during the event.
The ceremony began with a choral performance by the current students of the school. Then, the felicitation book titled Swopnodrista (The Visionary), published by the teaching and non-teaching staff of the school, was unveiled by Padma Dhar Kachari, a retired head teacher of the institution.
Several local social workers including Mridul Saikia, Labanya Gogoi, Mamoni Rajkhowa Kataki, Shitala Hazarika, and Manik Tati spoke at the event, reminiscing about Mohen Saikia’s significant contributions during his tenure at the school. A documentary based on the life of Mohen Saikia, prepared by current and former students of Numaligarh Higher Secondary School, was released by the acting academic Principal Nibedita Tati and screened at the event.
