Rhino Poacher escapes from Forest Department’s Custody in Kaziranga, Local demands suspension of Forest Ranger

Kaziranga: A rhino poacher escaped from the custody of the Bagari Forest division in Kaziranga on May 13, 2019.

Akhtar Ali the poacher was nabbed on May 9, 2019, by Jakhalabandha Police from Garubandha in Jakhalabandha under Nagaon district, who was involved in many rhino poaching at Kaziranga National Park and he was brought into the custody in May 10.

It is to be noted that Akhtar Ali the poacher, resides at Bandradubi in Kaziranga National Park since 2016.

The accused was also involved in poaching a rhino on December 15, 2018, at near Bagari Forest Division, informed one of the forest officials.

On the other hand, when the news reached to the local people, they gheraoed the Bagori Forest Range office and protest against the officials demanding the suspension of Pankaj Bora, the Range officer for alleged negligence.

“We don’t want such kind of negligent Forest Department in the area; we want a probe in connection to the incident as soon as possible. We the people of the region suspect that Forest Department officials are engaged in this activity, our demand is simple we want the Rhino poachers should be killed on the spot, whenever they are being spotted at the Kaziranga National Park,” said one of the local before the media.
