BISWANATH CHARIALI: Wanted rhino poacher who was arrested two days back through joint effort of Biswanath and Bongaigaon Police, named Ataur Rahman alias Bassa (35), son of Md. Ifer Ali of No. 1 Adabheti village under Sootea Police Station in Biswanath district was shot at one of his legs by police in the Sadharu areas, here in the wee hours on Monday while he had reportedly tried to flee from the police captivity. He was being transported from Bongaigaon. Superintendent of Police, Biswanath Nabin Singh informed this to media persons in a press briefing at Biswanath Chariali on Monday. Police claimed that the accused person had been involved in the killing of at least four rhinos. Injured Ataur Rahman was admitted in Tezpur Medical College Hospital for treatment. Further investigation is going on.
