Rich tributes paid to Mahapurush Srimanta Sankardev across Assam

LAKHIMPUR: Founder of the Assamese culture and nationality, social reformer, unique spiritual apostle of the North-Eastern region, Mahapurush Srimanta Sankardev was commemorated with profound reverence across Lakhimpur district on Monday on his 454th 'Tirobhav Tithi' (Death Anniversary). On the day, people across the district paid rich tribute with deep obeisance to the divine personality who, with his liberal ideology, spearheaded the Bhakti movement in medieval Assam to bring in a new order in the spiritual and social life of the people.

On this occasion, community Nam-Prasanga was organized in spiritual environment in the namghars, xatras of the district, which became sonorous with the chanting of Guru Vandana along with the Borgeet, Gunamala, Bhatimas, Yotayas composed by the "Gurujona".

The Tirobav Tithi of the Mahapurush was observed in academic institutions of the district, including schools and colleges, by commemorating his tremendous contributions to Assam and mankind. In this connection, Borgeet competition, Diha-Nam competition, speech competition, symposia, group discussion progammes on Srimanta Sankardev were organized in various schools and colleges of the district. The North Lakhimpur College (Autonomous) Students' Union (NLCSU), under the auspices of the Festival Celebration Section and the Cultural Section, observed the event in a befitting manner.

In the college, the agenda of the event began with Nam-Prasanga, performance of Guru Vandana and chanting of Harinam. It was followed by an inter-department Diha-Nam competition with the participation of the students. The first prize of the competition was grabbed by Department of Hindi, while Department of Political Science bagged the second prize. On the other hand, Department of Education managed to bag the third prize. Palki Hatiboruah of the Department of Political Science won the best Namoti award.

Similarly, Lakhimpur Girls' College also observed the event by organizing Nam Prasanga and inter-department Diha-Nam competition. A total of sixteen groups of the students participated in the competition. Principal Dr. Surajit Bhuyan informed that the first prize of the competition was won by Department of History while Department of Political Science bagged the second prize and Department of Home Science secured the third prize. On the other hand, the team of the students of Higher Secondary First Year managed to achieve the judges' spiritual award.

MORIGAON: The death anniversary of Srimanta Sankardev was observed by Charaibahi HS School on Monday. In keeping with the observation of the death anniversary, an essay competition was jointly organized by Charaibahi HS School and Lekhika Samaj .The students from class IX to X took part in the essay writing competition. A dihanam competition was also held among the students of the school. A wall journal 'Ankuran' was formally inaugurated by the principal of Charaibahi HS school Rekhamoni Buragohai. Besides a plantation drive programme was also organized.
