Road Accident On National Highway-37 In Bokakhat; 1 Killed; 1 Injured

GUWAHATI: In a tragic incident, a man died after a motorcycle he was riding on had a head-on collision with another bike on National Highway-37 in Bokakhat on Sunday.

The deceased man Bharat Gogoi was a resident of Jorhat district. According to reports, the accident took place on Sunday night. Bharat who was riding his bike (AS-03 U-2623) collided head-on with another speeding motorcycle as a result of which Bharat died on the spot, while the other person was injured.

A team of police reached the mishap location and sent the body and the injured person to a hospital.

At least two other road accidents took place in Assam on Sunday. One woman was killed and four persons, including a child, suffered critical injuries in a road accident on Silchar-Karimganj road in Srikona in Cachar district on Sunday. According to sources, the mishap took place around 9pm on Sunday evening in Srikona, Part-II when a speeding car, which was travelling with five passengers through the area, lost control and rammed into a lorry parked along the roadside. After hitting the lorry, the car fell into a ditch because of which the five passengers were critically injured, sources said.

Onlookers immediately gathered on the spot after which the injured persons were sent to Silchar Medical College and Hospital (SMCH). One of the passengers Samarpita Das (who was a family member of a man Ranjit Das, a security guard at the National Institute of Technology, Silchar) breathed her last after reaching the hospital, while the other persons, including a child were admitted for treatment. The four persons are also from Ranjit Das' family, the sources said.

In another incident, a 25-year-old youth died and two others were injured after an Alto car and an auto-rickshaw had a head-on collision on Silchar-Irongmara road at Mithapani, near Silcoorie, in Cachar district on Sunday.
