Road safety awareness programme held in Sonitpur district

TEZPUR: In a bid to create awareness about road safety, the 4th Road Safety Awareness Meeting was held at M/s Narayan Service near Ghoramari under the chairmanship of DC Deba Kumar Mishra. The area is one of the most accident-prone areas of the Sonitpur district. SP Sonitpur Sushanta Biswa Sarma, ADC Dyotiva Bora, EE, PWD, Ajit Medhi, DTO Sailen Das, senior district administration officials and various heads of departments concerned were present in the meeting.

Various aspects related to road safety, including ongoing construction works of NH, plying of dumpers carrying construction materials, installation of signage near rumble strips and speedbreakers, enforcement drives against drunken driving, etc., were dicussed during the course of the meeting. The District Transport Officer, Sailen Das informed the meeting that since the last DRSC meeting held on March 18, 2023, a total of 652 offences were registered by the enforcement team and an amount of nearly Rs.12,98,000 collected as fine during this period. It was decided to intensify checking against drunken driving and other related offences.
